The Great dorset steam fair
September 2011 herald's the 42nd year in succession of The Great Dorset Steam Fair. For something truly awe inspiring and out of the ordinary to entertain you during your stay at our family run bed and breakfast hotel in Bournemouth, this is an absolute must. Just a 45 minute drive from The Cavendish to the village of Tarrant Hinton and you'll find your eyes light up with delight as you view the wonderful steam engines of days gone by.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair has become one of the largest events of its kind in the World, and one where you'll find hundreds of acres of farmland housing every type of steam and vintage machine imaginable - and you don't have to be a fan to enjoy the spectacle of the 5 day event as there is so much going on all at the same time. One may choose to wander around the show grounds inspecting the beautifully maintained vehicles - there's everything on site from heavy haulage road locomotives, to steam tractors and steam rollers, plus ploughing and threshing machines. A Vintage exhibit includes veteran and classic cars, caravans, commercial vehicles and motorcycles. There is so much of everything that it's impossible to get around the show in just one day.
Of course you'll need to stop off at one of a multitude of eateries for some light refreshment to keep yourself energised for the long and eventful day of fun. And if you feel you are all 'steam-engined out', then take a walk on the wild side and step onto one of the many rides the show ground funfair has to offer.
At the end of a long and fun-filled day you can return to the comfort of your room here at the Cavendish to relax and reflect upon a day when you wandered back into the past.
Remember to add The Great Dorset Steam Fair to your entertainment calendar for 2011 – the fair runs from August 31 to September 4, 2011, and don't forget to make your hotel reservations at the Cavendish well in advance.
